The Machine in the Ghost

Robin Boast, Professor of Information Science and Culture at the University of Amsterdam, and now Lecce resident talks to us about what lies at the heart of our contemporary, information-heavy, media-saturated lives: digitality. It is often hidden to us, a technology that someone else has invented and that lives buried inside our computers, tablets, and smartphones. But what, exactly, is it?

Time to find out.

Place: University

Amitav Ghosh and  Gun Island

Acclaimed writer Amitav Ghosh will be talking about his  2019 book "Gun Island" and its publication in Italian. Of the book, the Guardian newspaper writes "Bengali legend blends with contemporary adventure in a novel finding new ways to write about migration and climate breakdown". The Washington Post headlines its review with "A novel for our times".

The book is partly set in Italy, and the only criticism from the Post regards the Italian character, Cinta, because "almost! everything! she! says! is accentuated! with! an! exclamation! mark! because those Italians are a passionate lot!"  Mmm...
