The Machine in the Ghost

Robin Boast, Professor of Information Science and Culture at the University of Amsterdam, and now Lecce resident talks to us about what lies at the heart of our contemporary, information-heavy, media-saturated lives: digitality. It is often hidden to us, a technology that someone else has invented and that lives buried inside our computers, tablets, and smartphones. But what, exactly, is it?

Time to find out.

Thursday November 14

Place: University

(aula SP4 ex-Sperimentale, Via Calasso 3/A).

at   9.30 am

Amitav Ghosh and  Gun Island

Acclaimed writer Amitav Ghosh will be talking about his  2019 book "Gun Island" and its publication in Italian. Of the book, the Guardian newspaper writes "Bengali legend blends with contemporary adventure in a novel finding new ways to write about migration and climate breakdown". The Washington Post headlines its review with "A novel for our times".

The book is partly set in Italy, and the only criticism from the Post regards the Italian character, Cinta, because "almost! everything! she! says! is accentuated! with! an! exclamation! mark! because those Italians are a passionate lot!"  Mmm...

Scott Harrison and wife Isabelle Feraud will present a film of their intrepid adventure and will be on hand to answer: why Frigole?

Lecce ‘s Old Town Walls revealed

Medieval archaeologist, Paul Arthur takes us on an exclusive tour of his work carried  out on  the Walls (and possibly a Palazzo too). And thanks to the change of date the new audio-visual system in the visitor centre should be up and running

Postponed ... again. The old walls are still not, apparently, legal (at least not for guided tours)!
